What is a commissioned work?
A commissioned work is a specific, requested unique and personalized piece of art. It is created in collaboration with an artist willing to produce artwork that may commemorate a special moment, feeling, place or person. Usually created from a photo representation, the art will become a treasured piece or heirloom given a place of honor in the home or life of the individual requesting it.
Photo references
I work from photo references. Photo references should be plentiful, and those submitted for consideration should be good quality with high resolution and taken with lighting enough that detail is discernible, especially the eyes if it will be a portrait of a person or pet. I will take photos of your subject for you for a small charge if you are local and in need of additional reference shots.
Discussion
What is your aim? What story you wish to tell by the piece? What about the photo or scene is important to you? Will it be a gift? Will it be displayed in a particular space? It is important that we discuss all aspects of the desired work—color scheme, background, style of work, size, type of paper, and artistic license when necessary. Setting up appropriate expectations between us will go far to enable the creation of a beloved piece to be cherished for time to come!
***Please note that there is a minimum size of 8 x 10 inches for a commissioned painting.
Pricing and payment
The price for a commission is set only after discussion of the parameters for producing the work. Payment of 50% is taken up front and the remainder at completion of the work. Payment can be by cash, check, Venmo, or Paypal. Please email me directly for the Venmo or Paypal options for further instructions on completing the transaction.
